SportIdent in Australia

What is SportIdent?

SportIdent is an electronic timing system that can be used in Orienteering and similar sports. The purpose of the system is to provide accurate timing for sporting events and to reduce the administrative effort required to provide this service.

A SportIdent or SI system has a number of components:

SI Cards; the unit carried by competitors. Usually attached to a competitor's finger. This unit stores information about a single competitor.

SI Controls; the units that write timing information into the SI Cards. Although SI controls are all the same, they can be programmed for different purposes. Those at the start clear your stick or insert your start or finish time while those in the forest simply write the control number and the current time into your SI Card.

Computer Software; most typically OE2001 or MT 2001. This software, and associated programs, provides the ability to set up and operate an SI event.
