What we supply?

It is the VOA's intention to establish two independent sets of SportIdent equipment. Each set will have:

  • SportIdent Controls; approximately 65 to be used as follows:
    • 55 field controls
    • 10 admin controls (2 x Start, 2 x Clear, 2 x Check, 2 x Finish and 2 spares to cope with control failure)
  • SI Rental sticks (approximately 30)
  • Master/download controls x 2
  • Split-Print Capability (including paper rolls)
  • Power system; deep-cycle battery, inverter (to produce 240V), power boards and connecting leads. This system will support computer equipment provided for a 1-2 day event.
  • Laptops;
    • These will be configured to connect to one another automatically on startup.
    • Note that the userid for these laptops is si with password *nothing* i.e. just press enter, NO password is required.
  • Results printer;
  • Programming kit; allows SI controls to be programmed just prior to the event. Consists of :
    • a magnet, to turn SI controls ON
    • a ferrite/coupling rod, to interface controls to the master control
    • a purple OFF stick. To turn off the master control.

How you can book equipment?

Simply call/email Geoff Hudson as above. Describe the type of event, the date proposed and the equipment required. In addition, we need to know when you would propose to pick up/return the equipment. We will then verify that the equipment is available at that time and confirm the booking immediately.

Picking up equipment

When picking up from central storage you will be provided with a SportIdent Equipment Checklist which lists the equipment that you have been given. Please note that it is the club's responsibility to ensure that all equipment is returned safely - and in a satisfactory condition. Please use the checklist to verify that everything is accounted for.

If picking up equipment directly from another club, please ensure that you get a copy of the SI Checklist accompanying it. Once you accept the equipment, the responsibility for it lies with your club - so you must verify that the equipment being accepted matches that on the checklist.

Data Files Available(Top)

To run an SI event, you will need the following data:

  • Archive file; this contains information about VOA members and people that have run in recent events. Entering people from the archive saves lots of typing. For the latest archive file click here. Not that this file is encrypted - Geoff Hudson will supply the password on request.
  • Class information; details of the age-classes proposed and the courses to which they are related.
  • Condes file; an export from Condes provides

Equipment to be supplied by your club(Top)

It is the coordinating club's responsibility to supply:

  • Finish shelter/tent; to provide cover from rain, wind and sun.
  • Benches/tables
  • Seating for the operators
  • A4 paper for the printer

Publishing Results

We try to publish SI results on the net as soon as possible after the event. To do this, simply send a Zip file containing the data files for the event to results publication coordinator. If unsure how to do this follow the procedure below.

Procedures(Top)

Setting up your event

  1. Described in SportIdent Handout No. 8 - Entering Course Information

Programming Controls

  1. Described in SportIdent Handout No. 7 - Programming Controls

Forwarding Results for Publication

  1. The files required are stored in a directory called OEWKnnnn, where nnnn is the event prefix used within OE/MT to identify the event. This directory is usually located in the OE/MT install directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\OE2002).
  2. To find the event prefix;
    1. Open this event in OE2002 (use the Select Event function in the Event menu)
    2. This displays a list of events available at the left of each is a numeric prefix; select the prefix for the event that you wish to publish.
  3. Assuming the prefix is 8, look for the directory OEWK0008; select this directory.
  4. Press the right-click button on your mouse; a pop-up menu appears. If WinZip is installed on your machine (note that it is installed on the VOA laptops), an option 'Add to Zip' will be available. Select that option.
  5. In the main WinZip menu, you are required to name the zip file to be produced. Just enter the name of this in the field required (be sure to note the directory in which the file is being created). Press Enter to compress all files in this directory into a single zip file.
  6. Now the zip file has been produced, you have to mail it to us - at sportident at orienteering.com.au. There are two ways:
    1. Via Windows Explorer; just locate the file and right-click on it. Select the "send to" option and proceed as required.
    2. Via your email program; just create an email message, insert the address above and attach the file as normal.

Templates(Top)

  • SportIdent Registration Form; please use this as an entry form for SI events. The start slip provides a backup capability for results display.
  • SportIdent Equipment Checklist; provides an inventory or equipment loaned to clubs. Also useful as a checklist to make sure nothing's been forgotten.
